These counties lie — somewhat, approximately– in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania. They have proximity to both the relatively urban sophistication of Pittsburgh, and to the rural, unheralded border areas of West Virginia and Ohio. They have been both enriched and decimated by King Coal.
